BEEF PARES

A classic Filipino dish and a diner favorite.

Ingredients
1 2 KG - BEEF CUBES
2 1 MEDIUM - ONION (CHOPPED)
3 4 PIECES - STAR ANISE
4 1 CUP - SOY SAUCE
5 1 TBSP - GINGER (GRATED)
6 5 PIECES - GARLIC CLOVES (CRUSHED)
7 2 1/2 - CUPS WATER
8 3 TBSP - BROWN SUGAR
9 GARLIC RICE
10 TO TASTE - SALT & PEPPER
Steps
1 Preheat a medium saucepan with some oil and saute onions, ginger and garlic.
2 Add the beef once onions softened, and let cook until it turns light brown.
3 Pour in soy sauce, water and star anise and let simmer for 45 minutes on low heat or until the beef is tender.
4 After the beef tenderizes, season with sugar, salt and pepper and let reduce for another 15 minutes or until sauce thickens.
5 Serve with garlic rice.
