BEEF PARES
A classic Filipino dish and a diner favorite.

Ingredients
1 | 2 KG - BEEF CUBES |
2 | 1 MEDIUM - ONION (CHOPPED) |
3 | 4 PIECES - STAR ANISE |
4 | 1 CUP - SOY SAUCE |
5 | 1 TBSP - GINGER (GRATED) |
6 | 5 PIECES - GARLIC CLOVES (CRUSHED) |
7 | 2 1/2 - CUPS WATER |
8 | 3 TBSP - BROWN SUGAR |
9 | GARLIC RICE |
10 | TO TASTE - SALT & PEPPER |
Steps
1 | Preheat a medium saucepan with some oil and saute onions, ginger and garlic. |
2 | Add the beef once onions softened, and let cook until it turns light brown. |
3 | Pour in soy sauce, water and star anise and let simmer for 45 minutes on low heat or until the beef is tender. |
4 | After the beef tenderizes, season with sugar, salt and pepper and let reduce for another 15 minutes or until sauce thickens. |
5 | Serve with garlic rice. |
